Behavior Modification
Understanding Behavior, Building Confidence & Creating Lasting Change
Individualized Support for Complex Behavior Challenges
Behavior challenges are rarely as simple as a dog being "stubborn," "dominant," or "bad." Behind challenging behavior, there is often fear, frustration, anxiety, uncertainty, learned responses, or difficulty coping with particular situations.
At Cedar Creek Canine Training Co., we believe meaningful behavior change begins with understanding why a behavior is happening, rather than simply focusing on stopping it.
Our Behavior Modification program is designed to help dogs and their owners navigate complex behavioral challenges through individualized assessment, practical management strategies, clear communication, and carefully structured training.
Whether your dog struggles with reactivity, aggression, fear, anxiety, or other challenging behaviors, our goal is to help you better understand your dog, improve safety, build confidence, and develop more appropriate responses to everyday situations.
What We'll Work On
Over 8 private training lessons, we'll develop a personalized behavior modification plan based on your dog's history, temperament, environment, triggers, and individual needs.
This program may address concerns such as:
Reactivity & Aggression: Barking, lunging, growling, snapping, or other defensive or aggressive responses toward people, dogs, or environmental triggers.
Fear & Anxiety: Fearful responses to unfamiliar people, animals, sounds, environments, handling, or everyday experiences.
Resource Guarding: Protective behavior involving food, toys, resting spaces, objects, or other valued resources.
Territorial & Protective Behaviors: Excessive alerting, defensive responses, or difficulty managing visitors, unfamiliar people, or activity around the home.
Excessive Barking & Over-Arousal: Difficulty regulating excitement, frustration, or responses to environmental stimulation.
Handling Sensitivities & Cooperative Care: Discomfort, fear, or defensive behavior during grooming, physical handling, veterinary care, or routine procedures.
Other Challenging Behaviors: Individual concerns that require a more specialized and carefully structured approach.
Rather than applying the same training methods to every dog, we'll focus on understanding the circumstances surrounding your dog's behavior and developing strategies appropriate for their individual needs.
Training may include:
Behavioral Assessment & Trigger Identification: Understanding your dog's history, behavior patterns, triggers, stress signals, and thresholds.
Safety & Management Strategies: Creating practical routines and environmental adjustments that reduce unnecessary exposure to difficult situations.
Confidence Building & Emotional Support: Helping your dog develop greater comfort and confidence through appropriate, carefully structured experiences.
Alternative Behaviors & Coping Skills: Teaching practical responses that help your dog navigate challenging situations more successfully.
Desensitization & Counterconditioning: Gradually working with triggers at manageable levels to support more positive emotional responses.
Impulse Control & Emotional Regulation: Building skills that help your dog respond more appropriately to excitement, frustration, and environmental challenges.
Owner Education & Communication: Teaching you how to recognize body language, understand thresholds, respond appropriately, and support your dog's progress.
A major focus of this program is working below your dog's threshold whenever possible, rather than overwhelming them with situations they are not yet prepared to handle.
We prioritize safety, thoughtful progression, and realistic expectations. Difficulty is increased according to your dog's demonstrated comfort and ability, not simply because we've reached a certain lesson.
Behavior modification is a process, not a quick fix. While meaningful progress can be made, outcomes and timelines vary depending on the dog's history, individual needs, environment, and consistency of implementation.
Our goal is to help you and your dog build safer routines, improved communication, greater confidence, and meaningful progress that can continue long after your training program ends.

How to Get Started — Our 3-Step Training Process
STEP 1 — Initial Phone Consultation (30 Minutes)
Every successful behavior modification journey begins with understanding your dog!
Your first required appointment is a 30-minute phone consultation where we'll discuss your dog's behavioral history, current challenges, known triggers, previous training experiences, and your goals.
We'll also review any immediate safety concerns, including previous incidents involving aggression, biting, guarding, or other potentially dangerous behaviors.
This conversation allows us to become acquainted with your dog's situation, discuss appropriate precautions, and prepare for your initial in-home assessment.
This consultation is included in your purchased package at no additional fee.
STEP 2 — In-Home Behavioral Assessment & Initial Training Session (2–2.5 Hours)
Your first in-home appointment is where we begin developing a deeper understanding of your dog's behavior and creating a practical plan for moving forward.
During this visit, we'll review your dog's behavioral history, daily routines, environment, known triggers, body language, and responses to everyday situations.
Rather than deliberately provoking unwanted behavior, we'll use safe observation, owner-provided history, and appropriate assessment techniques to identify training priorities and management needs.
We'll then begin introducing suitable management strategies, foundational exercises, and initial behavior modification techniques based on your dog's comfort and readiness.
Your appointment includes approximately:
1 hour of consultation and behavioral assessment.
1 hour of initial training, management instruction, and practical exercises.
Additional time for questions, safety recommendations, and individualized planning.
This appointment counts as Lesson 1 of your 8-lesson package. No additional assessment fee is required.
STEP 3 — Remaining Training Sessions
After completing your Initial Phone Consultation and In-Home Behavioral Assessment, you may begin scheduling your 7 remaining private training lessons.
Each session will build upon your dog's progress while continuing to address identified behavioral concerns, management strategies, emotional responses, and practical skills.
Depending on your dog's needs, sessions may focus on reducing exposure to triggers, strengthening alternative behaviors, developing confidence, improving coping skills, and gradually introducing controlled challenges.
We'll also continue helping you recognize your dog's body language, understand their thresholds, respond appropriately to difficult situations, and maintain consistency between appointments.
Training progresses according to your dog's individual comfort, safety, and demonstrated readiness.
Important Booking Information: All appointments must be completed in order. Your Initial Phone Consultation (Step 1) must be completed before your In-Home Behavioral Assessment (Step 2), and both must be completed before beginning your Remaining Training Sessions (Step 3).
